DAEJEON, April 5 (Korea Bizwire)The state-run Korea Gas Technology Corp. has been selected by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to lead a project on the development of infrastructure for hydrogen-based public transportation overseas.

The company will build charging stations for hydrogen fuel-cell electric buses in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which are also capable of producing hydrogen via water electrolysis, and carry out operability assessments by December 2025.

A research team led by the corporation will work on the development of hydrogen production by water electrolysis as a secondary source of renewable energy.

The technology aims to produce more than 35 kilograms of hydrogen per hour, provide two consecutive and simultaneous charges for two buses, and fill more than 1,000 kilograms each day.

Starting this month, the corporation will invest a total of 34 billion won (US$30 million) by December 2025.

In the initial phase, the corporation will select local authorities to acquire land and hydrogen buses for operability assessment.

Next, the corporation will conduct an operability assessment and optimize technology for hydrogen production and filling facilities that can withstand the UAE’s hot environment.
