DAEJEON, Oct. 25 (Korea Bizwire) – Korail’s time saving app, which as the name suggests helps customers save time by providing personalized train journey information, has proven to be a success, with tens of thousands of people having signed up for the service this year.

The ‘Time Saving Service’ by Korail for KTX customers has been well received, attracting over 30,000 users since the service was first launched back in February.

According to Korail, the service, which is part of the company’s ‘Korail Talk+’ app, is designed with the purpose of helping customers save time in case their plans change.

Customers who arrive at a station earlier than expected are provided with useful information regarding the earliest train, as the information entered previously is saved and used by the GPS-based app to find the next train as soon as possible.

For instance, if a passenger who has booked a ticket for a train from Seoul Station to Busan at 1 p.m. arrives at the station an hour early, the Time Saving Service will send an automatic notification to the passenger to give information on an earlier train departing at 12:30.

A question asking the user whether they wish to select a seat on an earlier train or not will show in the form of a pop-up, which means customers in a rush don’t have to fill in the blanks all over again and can swiftly change their ticket with a few simple taps.

A daily average of around 130 people have been using the app, and the total time saved so far is estimated to be worth around 104 million won, according to Korail.

For passengers to receive push notifications from Korail, the Korail Talk+ app needs to be installed on a smartphone with the GPS and notification options activated.

With the app gaining recognition on social media, coupled with a possible update in November for iPhone users, the user base for Korail’s Time Saving Service is expected to increase.

“The Time Saving Service is a customized service that uses the latest IT technology. We plan to extend smart services to help customers take trains more conveniently and quickly,” said Koreail official Yu Jae-young.

Currently only available to Android smartphone users, the service is expected to be made available later this year for iPhones too, according to Korail.
