Korea Exchange to Launch New AI-Themed Indexes Reflecting Industry’s Expanding Reach

SEOUL, Sept. 6 (Korea Bizwire) — The Korea Exchange said Friday it will introduce three new stock indexes tied to artificial intelligence on Sept. 8, underscoring how rapidly the technology is reshaping investment strategies across industries.

The indexes — the KRX Sovereign AI Index, the KRX-Akros AI Power Infrastructure Index, and the KRX AI Semiconductor Index — were developed in collaboration with fintech startup Akros Technologies using large language model–based keyword analysis. It is the first time the exchange has co-developed such benchmarks with a domestic index provider.

The Sovereign AI Index will track 27 companies spanning AI infrastructure, software, semiconductors, and energy — areas seen as central to the concept of “sovereign AI,” or a nation’s capacity to secure autonomous AI capabilities.

The Power Infrastructure Index will cover 15 firms in electricity transmission and storage, such as transformer, cable, battery, and nuclear power businesses, reflecting expectations of surging energy demand from AI adoption.

The AI Semiconductor Index will consist of 20 stocks across the semiconductor value chain, including high-bandwidth memory vital for AI training and inference.

The exchange said the indexes are designed to serve as benchmarks for exchange-traded funds and other financial products, offering investors new opportunities to capture growth across the AI ecosystem.

“These new indexes span core areas from AI chips to infrastructure,” the exchange noted, adding that it will continue to roll out thematic indexes that align with industrial transformation and market demand.
