Korea Forest Service to Invest 1 tln Won to Create Urban Forests

DAEJEON, July 28 (Korea Bizwire)The Korea Forest Service (KFS) announced Friday that it will invest 1 trillion won (US$837 million) to create new urban forests by 2025, as part of the government’s Green New Deal initiative.

The KFS will create 723 hectares of forest near roads or industrial complexes to block fine dust and ensure a more refreshing city life.

More than 1 million trees over 10 years of age will be planted to cut fine dust and limit the urban heat island effect.

Another 228 forest areas will be established around libraries, subway stations, and universities.

In addition, 370 ‘childcare’ green forests will also be set up near children protection zones at schools to separate pedestrian roads from traffic.
