GANGNEUNG, June 10 (Korea Bizwire) – The Asean-Korea Centre is hosting the 2016 ASEAN School Tour Program Friday at Dano Culture Center in Gangneung, Gangwon Province.

The event is being co-hosted with the Gangwon Education Office, Gangneung Office of Education, and Gangneung Dano Festival Committee, and some 450 middle school students and teachers from the city will participate to experience and learn ASEAN member nations’ culture, history, and their relationships with Korea.

There will be 10 booths for the 10 ASEAN countries, each of which will introduce the nation’s history, natural environment, and popular tourism spots.

The event will also host what it calls an ‘ASEAN Talk Show’, where students will have the chance to talk to the diplomatic corps and learn about diplomats, as well as discuss ASEAN’s future course and vision.

Other events include Burmese, Thai, and Vietnamese traditional performances by students from Busan University of Foreign Studies, and professional B-boy performances. An ASEAN quiz contest and ASEAN fashion show will also take place.

The winners of the ASEAN-themed painting contest will be receiving awards at the end of the event.

The Asean-Korea Centre has organized the ASEAN School Tour Program since 2009, during which some 11,000 students participated.

“Despite the fact that ASEAN countries are our close neighbors and important partners, ASEAN is not as widely known in Korea,” said Kim Young-seon, the center’s secretary general. “We hope this event provides students with an understanding of ASEAN’s cultural diversity and the value of coexistence.”
