SEOUL, Dec. 31 (Korea Bizwire)Mail carriers working in rural areas will be entitled to enjoy a five-day workweek starting next year.

Korea Post, South Korea’s state-run postal service operator, decided to outsource parcel deliveries to local private businesses to reduce the burden on mail carriers stationed in rural areas.

In areas where outsourcing is difficult, Korea Post will recruit delivery people available to work from Tuesdays to Saturdays.

The Korean Postal Workers’ Union called for a five-day workweek system, blaming Korea Post for the deaths of 25 mail carriers last year and nine this year due exhaustion and burnout.
