SEOUL, May 20 (Korea Bizwire)The state postal service Korea Post said Thursday it will commercialize advanced information and communication technology-based self-driving unmanned post collection and delivery service from next year.

To realize autonomous delivery service on the basis of new technology such as 5G, big data and AI, the agency has invested about 16 billion won (US$12.6 million) since April 2020 to develop core technologies and trial services.

On the same day, it hosted a demonstration of the trial unmanned post office project at Seoul National University.

This is a state-of-the-art unmanned post collection and delivery service that ensures unmanned delivery of in-campus mail without the intervention of human employees, and operates at the time users want throughout the campus.

Korea Post plans to operate the self-driving unmanned post office on real roads by connecting with the next-generation Cooperative Intelligent Transport System (C-ITS) targeting self-driving pilot zones in sub-downtown areas, apartment complexes and public institutions.
