SEOUL, May 11 (Korea Bizwire) – The Ministry of the Interior revealed yesterday that it will implement new mobile systems for social affairs. Over the course of a three-year plan, up to 3,000 social affairs services will become available from smartphones.

Social affairs services include the issuance of various types of documents such as resident registration, family relation certificates, and land registers.

Currently, only 32 documents are available for mobile issue, and the rest must be requested on Minwon24, a social affairs website for PCs.

The existing Minwon24 Mobile will be improved to become more user-friendly. At the moment, users must sign-up for accounts, and the site only offers ‘third-party issuance’.

The PC website will be updated so that no ActiveX installation is required.

A new form of user authentication will also be implemented for Minwon24 Mobile. The Ministry is considering fingerprint and facial recognition technology, or IC Chip identification as a means of authentication.

“We’re trying to replace the current Accredited Certificate with other forms of authentication, including biometric or IC Card identification,” said a ministry official.
