SEOUL, June 15 (Korea Bizwire) — Korean Air Lines Co., South Korea’s national flag carrier, said Tuesday it has opened up a new agency at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute in Daejeon to develop a next-generation stealth unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).
The new agency comes as a part of the company’s strategy to further develop Low Probability of Intercept (LPI) UAVs and gain higher ground in the next-generation market for stealth UAVs.
Korean Air plans to join the project led by the Agency for Defense Development to develop technology and prototypes of LPI UAVs.
A formation of LPI UAVs will join manned fighters to carry out joint missions.
Prior to the offensive led by manned aircraft, the UAVs may first engage in surveillance missions or engage the enemy firsthand to ensure pilot safety.
Joined by manned aircraft, the combined formation will be capable of facing unexpected events on the battlefield.
