SEOUL, Feb. 26 (Korea Bizwire)Korean Air Lines Co., South Korea’s largest flag carrier, said Friday that it reached a code-sharing agreement with India’s Jet Airways that will enhance passenger convenience.

Code-sharing flights allow one carrier to sell its tickets on another’s flights. It is aimed mostly at boosting revenue by increasing passenger seats and flight destinations without requiring a carrier to use its own airplanes.

Korean Air said the agreement, which goes into effect in March, covers six international routes, such as those linking New Delhi with Bangkok, with both companies to offer mutual mileage benefits to passengers.

“Under the agreement, a Korean Air Sky Pass member can use his or her mileage to get a bonus ticket on a Jet Airways flight or earn mileage points that can be used later,” the airline said. “The same benefits will be offered to Jet Airways customers using Korean Air flights.”

Korean Air said that the latest deal will create more convenient flight schedules when traveling to India, adding it plans to expand cooperation with the Indian carrier.

Jet Airways, based in Mumbai, is the second-largest air carrier in India, with a fleet of 110 passenger planes. It operates many domestic routes and provides international flights to 20 destinations.

Korean Air, meanwhile, has code-sharing pacts with 34 airlines on 397 international routes.’
