SEOUL, April 12 (Korea Bizwire)South Korean national flag carrier Korean Air Lines Co. said Monday it will take part in a government-led research and development project for an urban air mobility (UAM) surveillance information acquisition system.

Under the project led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Korean Air will develop the operating control system and operation simulation system needed for UAM operators.

The system enables operators to plan, monitor and schedule flights, while providing additional information on operations, including weather, airspace, communications and “vertiports,” terminals that allow take-off and landing for the drone taxis.

The operation simulation system allows operators to check the safety of UAM operations throughout the entire process, ranging from flight preparation to termination.

Korean Air is also engaged in the development of a traffic management system that enables comprehensive management of traffic flows, including approval of UAM flight plans, flight monitoring and response to emergency situations.

Moreover, it is also pushing to establish a ‘digital twin’ that replicates the overall UAM ecosystem in the virtual world.
