SEOUL, Feb. 16 (Korea Bizwire) — The Korea Petroleum Quality & Distribution Authority (K-Petro) has announced plans to conduct a free verification service to identify fake versus genuine gasoline. The Korean government has been conducting an all-out war on fake gasoline over the past several years, implementing various measures including fines and other penalties.
K-Petro’s service can be used by any citizen wishing to check whether gasoline in their car is fake or genuine. The government agency will be operating mobile analysis desks where car owners can have the fuel in their car verified. The service is expected to be offered 130 times at different sites nationwide until the end of the year.
The first analysis desk is scheduled to open at the Guri Service Area on February 16. Locations and dates for the service can be found on K-Petro’s website, www.kpetro.or.kr.
K-Petro analyzed 2,932 samples through the service last year, and identified five gas stations that were offering fake gasoline. The service was introduced in 2011, and has been expanded since then.
