ILSAN, South Korea, Aug 28 (Korea Bizwire) –  Soju, a Korean traditional vodka, is becoming more popular abroad thanks to the Korean wave and pop star Psy. Along with this trend Samgyeopsal, or Korean-style roasted pork belly, that is one of the best side dishes for drinking soju is also becoming famous as a menu representing Korea. “Samgyeopsal, just amazing!” shouts Psy in a Wiki Korea video, inviting more foreigners to try this unique and delicious dish.

Now an increasing number of Korean franchises are looking abroad for new markets. The ‘Jongro Franchise (www.jongrofc.com)’ is undergoing interior construction at two locations in Manhattan and Annandale, Virginia, a Washington, D.C. suburban town, to open this upcoming September and October.

Park Jung-in, CEO of Jongro Franchise, said, “Foreigners are finding the combination of newly cooked meat wrapped in fresh vegetables. We believe that Korea’s traditional ‘meat wrap’ menus can be successful with local vegetables, and renewed sauces that reflect the local cuisine.”

Choi Kyung-rim, CEO of the ‘32nd Street’ and first ‘Jongro Franchise’ restaurant to open in New York, agrees. “There is great interest in Korea’s food and food culture, and many Americans are intrigued by soju and samgyeopsal. The 60 and70s retro feel that the Jongro Franchise aims for will be popular among Americans once the store officially opens.”
