YEONGAM, Jun. 3 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Samho Heavy Industry (HSHI) and the Yeongam Health Center signed an MoU on June 3 to develop a clean work place without smoking by establishing a fund to support the project.
Both sides will operate a fund of 15 million won (US$ 13,540), established by 150 people paying 30,000 won (US$ 27) each, and the company and the center paying 70,000 won (US$ 63) per person.
The 15 million won will be equally distributed to strong-willed people who succeed in quitting smoking. Even if the 150 participants succeed in quitting, they would be able to raise more than 200 percent profits.
The fund will be operated for six months until November.
HSHI will also work with the center to operate smoking clinics, distribute free stop-smoking aids to its workers, and manage and support the fund participants.
A HSHI representative said that although the company cannot force its workers to quit smoking, it can still motivate workers to quit for their own health.
The company is also expecting to make its working environment cleaner and safer with less smoking at work spaces.
