BUENOS AIRES, Mar. 21 (Korea Bizwire) – The Korean Cultural Center in Argentina inaugurated a special exhibition titled “The Path of Hanji” on March 20, showcasing the beauty and artistry of South Korea’s traditional handmade paper, hanji.

The exhibition features 14 diverse artworks crafted from hanji, a natural paper with a 1,600-year history. Visitors can explore these exquisite pieces until May 31 at the center’s first-floor exhibition hall in Buenos Aires.

During the opening ceremony, Dario Celaya, a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, praised the allure of Korean traditional culture, stating, “Not only Korean music and films, but also traditional culture possesses a captivating charm.” He expressed hopes for more vibrant cultural exchanges between the two nations.

Han Bo-hwa, Director of the Korean Cultural Center, proudly introduced hanji as “a precious treasure embodying the identity and millennium-long history of the Korean people.” She explained that the durability of hanji reflects the unwavering resilience of Koreans in the face of change.

Attendees marveled at the artistic expression of hanji. Antonio Drago exclaimed, “Transforming paper into art is truly beautiful. The exquisite colors, textures, and the creation of hanbok (traditional Korean dress) from paper are astonishing, and the history behind hanji is fascinating.”

Thiago Li, a sculptor, shared his amazement: “I couldn’t comprehend how one could create such diverse artworks from paper, but seeing it in person is even more impressive. Using the bark of the mulberry tree to make paper and then expressing it as art is deeply impactful.”
