ROME, NOV. 22 (Korea Bizwire) – The Korean Cultural Center in Italy has held a cooking class with local bloggers and journalists as part of efforts to promote Korean food.

During the special cooking class which took place on Monday, nine bloggers and web magazine editors learned to make traditional Korean dishes as well as Korean-Italian fusion dishes including kimchi potato pizza.

The event took place as a follow-up to a cooking show last month which was intended to promote the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, as some of the recipes that proved popular were taught during the cooking class.

“Using potato instead of flour, we tried to make a simple and earthy-flavored pizza. Kimchi, the most representative fermented Korean food was coupled with ingredients which represent Italy such as prosciutto and Parmigiano Reggiano,” said Gu Seon-yeong, an Italy-based South Korean chef who led the class.

Plum wine was served before the main dishes as an aperitif, while makgeolli was served to complement the fusion pizza.

“It was interesting to see a new recipe born from the ingredients of two very different countries. I would like to go home and make jeon, which is like Korean pizza, using vegetables such as potatoes and pumpkins,” one food blogger who attended the cooking class said.
