Korean Cultural Program Resumes in Egypt

SEOUL, June 11 (Korea Bizwire)The Korean Wave and Korean language-related programs and festivities are slowly making a comeback overseas following the coronavirus outbreak.

The Korea Cultural Center in Cairo held the 2021 King Sejong Institute Korean Speech and Writing Competition on Wednesday.

It is the first Korean cultural event to be held in Egypt following the coronavirus outbreak.

Students from the King Sejong Institute participate in the speech and writing competition every year. The winner is entitled to participate in the final round of competition and join a study abroad program, both of which are held in South Korea.

Egypt has been seeing rising demand for Korean language education due to heightening interest in K-pop and K-dramas.

Early this year, some 1,300 people applied for enrollment at the King Sejong Institute, a state-run Korean language education center. For the institute’s summer program, more than 1,600 applications were submitted in a single day.
