SEOUL, April 22 (Korea Bizwire) — Double-decker electric buses manufactured using South Korean technology will begin operations this month.
The Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Metropolitan Transport Commission held a ceremony on Wednesday in Incheon’s Yeonsu District to celebrate the launch of two-story electric buses that are the products of a national R&D project.
A total of 20 buses will operate along five routes that connect Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. An additional 20 buses will be added later this year for a non-stop express service.
The eco-friendly buses can accommodate as many as 70 passengers, and are designed with low floors to ensure easy access for vulnerable groups.
Each bus comes with a 384-kilowatt-hour battery, giving the buses a range of 447 kilometers per charge, as certified by the Ministry of Environment.
For passengers in wheelchairs, three foldable seats are installed on the lower level to accommodate as many as two wheelchairs.
