SEOUL, Sept. 23 (Korea Bizwire)State-of-the-art street light products developed by a Korean manufacturer are attracting the eyes of Americans, and are quietly generating export interest.

Design Pole, a street light brand from Onegiup, recently won the “Best Booth” award at an exhibition organized by the American Public Works Association in Phoenix, Arizona, which was attended by more than 6,000 public officials and employees from public corporations and construction firms.

Design Pole is made in an eco-friendly way by mixing granite and concrete, and is called “Marble Pole” overseas, including in the U.S. The company has obtained related patents in North America, and earned EPA certification from the U.S. government. By linking various wires inside the stone pole, the street light has a simple exterior look.

Fremont, a residential area in downtown Los Angeles, first adopted Design Pole products and City of Industry, a California-based construction firm and real estate developer, signed a contract for the purchase of products worth US$25,000 as a test.

Design Pole products were exported to Big Bear, near LA, which is famous for its ski resort, and Santa Anna Memorial Park is set to install US$100,000 worth of Design Pole products. In addition, Long Beach Skate Park, Metrolink stations, and the cities of San Diego and Houston are considering purchasing the lighting products. Onegiup is aiming to export US$2 million worth of the lights next year, and US$5 million in 2017.

“Considering the fact that the existing poles are made of steel or stainless steel, Design Pole is the only such product made of stone. We don’t need to import iron ore to produce the products, and as they don’t need to go through a plating and painting process, they are more eco-friendly products than steel products,” said Onegiup president Won Bu-seong.

Meanwhile, Onegiup will ramp up active sales activities by participating in “Lightshow West 2015”, to be held at the LA Convention Center on October 21 and 22, and “LIGHTFAIR International 2016”, to be held in San Diego in May of next year.
