SEOUL, Jan. 18 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean supernatural mystery thriller “Exhuma” has been invited to this year’s Berlin International Film Festival set to kick off next month, the film’s local distributor said Thursday.
The film starring Choi Min-sik will be shown at the Forum section of the 74th edition of the festival set to open on Feb. 15 for a ten-day run in Berlin, Showbox said.
Previous Korean commercial titles chosen for the category for showcasing creative and challenging films included “Snowpiercer” (2013) by Bong Joon-ho, “Late Autumn” (2011) by Kim Tae-yong and “A Tale of Two Sisters” (2003) by Kim Ji-woon.
Directed by Jang Jae-hyun, “Exhuma,” also known as “Pamyo” in Korean, revolves around mysterious events affecting a geomancer, an undertaker and a young shaman duo after they exhume the grave of an ancestor from a wealthy family for a large amount of money.
Also starring Kim Go-eun, Yoo Hae-jin and Lee Do-hyun, the flick is set to open in local theaters next month.
Earlier this week, two other Korean films were invited to this year’s festival: Korean action comedy “The Roundup: Punishment” starring Ma Dong-seok, also known as Don Lee, will be shown at the special gala section, and Joung Yu-mi’s animation “Circle” will compete in the short film category.
The festival will announce feature films chosen to compete for the top Golden Bear prize Monday.
