DAEJEON, March 10 (Korea Bizwire)A South Korean research team has developed an unmanned smart farm robot that can harvest and transport fruits without the need for human help.

The Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials said Thursday that its researchers has developed a special robot that can harvest garden crops such as fruits and vegetables cultivated in an indoor environment and transport them to a specific location on its own.

The research team went beyond harvesting by connecting a harvesting robot with a transporting robot.

Operation is available with an unlimited number of robots.

In other words, multiple harvesting robots can harvest crops simultaneously on the farm, while multiple transporting robots can bring the harvested crops to a storage or processing area at the same time.

In particular, the harvesting robot is equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) technology to recognize the location and posture of the crops, and is thus able to recognize crop information in a fast and accurate manner.

The transporting robot features a high-precision self-driving mode. If the harvesting robot collects a certain amount of crops, a transporting robot approaches and takes delivery of the crops.
