Korean Tourism Organization Launches DMZ Tour Packages

SEOUL, Oct. 22 (Korea Bizwire)The Korea Tourism Organization announced yesterday that it had developed three travel packages that allow tourists to visit the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).

The first package, the “Hwacheon DMZ Mt. Seorak Train Tour” had a total of 80 people leaving Busan and Miryang by train to make stops at the Observation Deck in Hwacheon, the Peace Dam, Bimok Park and other attractions.

On the last day of the tour, visitors enjoyed the autumn foliage at the Jujeongol at Mangyeongdae Pavilion in Seoraksan National Park.

The second program had 40 retired shipbuilding workers from the Geoje region go on a tour of Hwacheon for a two-day trip.

The third package tour is expected to take place next month, and will provide participants a chance to experience the Yangyang and Samcheok areas over three days.

An Deuk-pyo, the Gangwon office chief of the Korea Tourism Organization, said that various tour packages from five districts that are adjacent to the DMZ (Cheolwon, Hwacheon, Yanggu, Inje and Goseong) will be released in consecutive order.

“In a more long-term perspective, we will be expanding DMZ-related tours in both South and North Korea if conditions permit,” said An.
