SEOUL, Sept. 2 (Korea Bizwire)South Koreans picked competition as the main concept inspired by the word fairness, while foreigners selected justice as the main fairness-inspiring concept.

The Corea Image Communications Institute (CICI), a nonprofit organization devoted to improving the nation’s image overseas, conducted a survey of 432 people consisting of 216 Koreans and 216 foreigners residing in South Korea.

In response to a question asking about the first concept inspired by the word fairness (multiple answers possible), 80.5 percent of Koreans selected competition, while 93 percent of foreigners selected justice.

Among Koreans, the share of those who selected justice was the third highest at 58.8 percent. In contrast, the share of foreigners who selected competition was the second highest at 55.1 percent.

When it came to a question asking about the first concept inspired by the word communication, the largest share of foreigners picked ‘attentive listening’ (75.4 percent), while the largest number of Koreans picked ‘dialogue’ (86.6 percent).

At 88.9 percent, the vast majority of foreigners selected ‘vaccine’ as the first concept inspired by the word COVID-19, while 81.5 percent of Koreans selected ‘face mask.’

“Given the atmosphere of Korean society where competition is a part of everyday life as seen in college entrance examinations and job preparations, competition is regarded as a virtue of fairness,” a CICI official said.
