SEOUL, Oct. 27 (Korea Bizwire)The landscape of Halloween parties is changing as more Koreans are preparing for indoor home costume parties this Saturday to both enjoy the celebrations and fend off the coronavirus.

Online shopping mall Gmarket reported a 209 percent increase in sales of candle holder sales between Oct. 15-21 compared to the same period last year.

Sales of party supplies also showed an overall increase, including aroma candles which jumped by 30 percent in sales as well as magic props that jumped by 45 percent.

Recipes for party cuisine are in high demand as well, particularly ingredients for cakes such as whipping cream that jumped by 67 percent in sales as well as baking soda that jumped by 20 percent.

Costume sales, on the other hand, shrank by 12 percent while sales of pajamas for couples rose by 53 percent.

Experts argue the recent changes in sales trends are largely due to the increasing number of Halloween pajama parties Koreans enjoy at home, rather than going to costume parties outdoors.
