SEOUL, Feb. 18 (Korea Bizwire) – Kim Sang-Ah, a 24-year-old Jeju University student, became the first female marine ROTC cadet in Korea. She earned the Korea Marine ROTC cadetship, along with 30 other official cadets, at a Jeju University’s cadet enlistment ceremony on February 17, after passing the qualification test in June 2013. She now faces two years of training courses to become a marine officer.

Marine ROTC units at Jeju University and the Korea Maritime and Ocean University had only been accepting male candidates for enlistment until 2013. Now the units accept one cadet per university. There were also three women among the 33 elected naval ROTC cadets this year.
