SEOUL, June 16 (Korea Bizwire)The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, better known as KOTRA, said Monday it has launched a seminar in Malaysia to support South Korean companies in making local investments and joining global semiconductor supply chains.

KOTRA is co-hosting the two-day event in Kuala Lumpur starting Monday in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Korean Embassy in Malaysia and the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association (KSIA), the agency said in a press release.

Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) are also participating in the seminar. The event aims to explore ways to boost semiconductor cooperation between the two countries, while South Korean firms will showcase their technologies, it said.

“Malaysia accounts for more than 13 percent of the global semiconductor back-end processing market. As the world’s sixth-largest semiconductor exporter and ASEAN’s largest supply chain hub, it is emerging as a strategic partner for Korean companies,” KOTRA President and CEO Kang Kyung-sung said in the release.

KOTRA will continue to strengthen the foundation for cooperation to support the entry of Korean materials, components and equipment companies into Malaysia and expand their participation in the global value chain, he said.

On Tuesday, 15 South Korean companies in semiconductor equipment and design are expected to take part in more than 100 export and partnership consultations with local firms specializing in semiconductor testing, packaging and distribution.
