SEOUL, July 3 (Korea Bizwire) — KT Corp., South Korea’s second-largest mobile carrier, said Thursday it plans to release its proprietary large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) model, Mi:dm, as open source.
Mi:dm will be open at Hugging Face, an online platform for sharing AI models, code and datasets, according to KT.
Developed in 2023, Mi:dm is a large language model (LLM) tailored to the Korean language and cultural context. It has been trained to understand nuanced elements, such as Korea’s social dynamics and linguistic characteristics.
Its first version has been used in KT’s customer service and internet-based TV and phone offerings.

The upcoming Mi:dm 2.0 will be released in two variants: Mi:dm 2.0 Base with 11.5 billion parameters and Mi:dm 2.0 Mini with 2.3 billion parameters. Both models support Korean and English.
The base version is optimized for general-purpose tasks and excels in Korean-specific knowledge and document-based question and answering, KT said.
KT stressed that it will become the first South Korean company to open-source a Korean-language general-purpose LLM with more than 11 billion parameters for commercial use.
The company expects this move to boost the domestic AI ecosystem.
“Mi:dm 2.0 is an AI model highly optimized to deeply understand Korean culture and language while maintaining strong general generative capabilities,” said Shin Dong-hoon, managing director at KT.
“This will be an important stepping stone for KT to provide high-performance Korean AI alternatives for domestic users and strengthen its global competitiveness.”
