SEOUL, Mar. 25 (Korea Bizwire) – KT Corporation has announced the introduction of a complimentary value-added service called ‘AI Spam Blocking Service’ that leverages artificial intelligence technology to automatically block spam text messages.

The AI system, trained on over 1.5 million daily spam data points using deep learning, can automatically identify and block promotional spam messages. Users can also additionally register specific numbers and phrases they wish to block.

KT estimates that the AI system will enable the blocking of approximately 10 million additional spam messages annually by automatically detecting and removing such content.

The telecom giant highlighted that the AI spam blocking technology boasts an accuracy rate of 99% while cutting spam processing time in half compared to existing methods.

Furthermore, KT plans to roll out additional anti-spam measures in the first half of this year, including an internet protocol (IP)-based spam blocking technology and a “circuit breaker” function that immediately blocks numbers utilized in voice phishing scams for a set period.

Beginning March 28, KT will also collaborate with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency to deploy a system that automatically extracts “decoy numbers” embedded within message bodies, which are used to circumvent number blocking. It is estimated that this system will enable the suspension of 300 to 500 such decoy numbers per month.

“We will continue developing real-time blocking technologies to more effectively combat spam issues, ensuring our customers can use our communication services with peace of mind,” stated Lee Byung-moo, head of KT’s Customer Experience Innovation Division.
