SEOUL, Nov. 23 (Korea Bizwire) – The Korea Trade Network (KTNET) announced Wednesday that it will launch a biometric authentication service in December that will allow almost all smartphone users to verify their identity via biometrics instead of using passwords. 

Smartphones with a front camera will be able to take advantage of the new service, KTENT officials said, once mobile app or web developers equip their online services with its technology. Companies hoping to use the system, or seeking more information, can apply via its website (www.BioCA.co.kr), it added. 

The system, which KTNET has been testing in collaboration with a few companies, offers users a preferred choice of authentication method, including fingerprint, face, and voice identification. They can also choose a combination of authentication measures at their discretion.

“There is no initial cost to use our service,” an official said. “And our customers will be able to maintain access to the latest biometric authentication technologies.”

    It’s really worrying that so many people are so tragically misinformed. Biometrics should not be brought in where you need to be security-conscious.

    Authentication by biometrics comes with poorer security than PIN/password-only authentication. This video explains how biomerics makes a backdoor to password-protected information.
