SEOUL, March 14 (Korea Bizwire) – KT’s gigabit internet service has attracted 200,000 subscribers in four months since its release in October 2014, said the company on March 13. KT said that the popularity of its service shows that gigabit internet is rapidly becoming mainstream in Korea.
KT’s Giga internet service provides users with a 1 Gbit/s connection speed, which is 10 times faster than the current broadband internet service that provides access at no more than 100 Mbit/s.
According to KT’s analysis, 80 percent of the Giga internet subscribers at the time of its launch were from KT’s own subscriber pool. However, the share of new subscribers has been increasing as the service increases in popularity.
KT also launched a new promotion which offers free Giga internet service to homes whose family members are all using KT mobile devices. KT’s new ‘Giga WiFi Home’ wireless internet service, which was launched in March 2, is also seeing large increases in its subscriber numbers.
