SEOUL, April 26 (Korea Bizwire)Labelless mineral water bottles, first released in 2020, are gradually expanding their presence in the water bottle market.

According to Lotte Mart, a discount store chain operated by retailer Lotte Group, labelless products grabbed a share of 62 percent in total sales of water bottles.

Labelless water bottles overtook sales of water bottles with plastic labels first in November 2021, with the share of labelless water bottles among total sales of water bottles reaching 48 percent in January 2022.

For E-Mart Inc., the country’s biggest discount store chain, the share of label-free water bottles among total sales of water bottles rose from 25 percent in September 2021 to 31.6 percent last year.

Another discount store chain Homeplus also saw its share of labelless bottles rise from 25 percent to 32 percent during the same period.

Despite concerns that consumers who used to buy specific water bottle brands would not buy labelless water bottles, the sales of such products are performing well thanks to a strong eco-friendly trend.

In fact, sales of ICIS Eco, released by Lotte Chilsung Beverage Co. as the first labelless water bottle in the market in 2020, jumped from 1.27 million boxes in 2020 to 22.88 million boxes last year.
