SEOUL, April 11 (Korea Bizwire)The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on Monday opened an online platform for renting construction equipment and for job searching and hiring operators.

The platform aims to break the traditional structure in which workers must join a construction labor union affiliated with the militant umbrella organization Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) to be hired.

The ministry said it is developing the job search platform, with the tower crane sector being the initial focus.

Previously, construction firms had to sign contracts directly with regional rental companies to rent equipment, leading to limitations in using various types of equipment in a customized manner.

Additionally, the KCTU-affiliated Korean Construction Workers’ Union often asked construction companies to hire unionized members for tower crane operators.

With the new platform, builders and rental companies can upload their respective information, including tower crane specifications, work areas, rental periods, and prices.

They can search for the desired rental or lease information by entering specific conditions into the search box.

Tower crane operators can upload information about their licenses, work areas, and careers onto the platform and search for recruitment information from construction and rental companies.
