SEOUL, March 12 (Korea Bizwire) —  South Korean legal tech firm Law & Company announced that its AI-powered legal assistant, Super Lawyer, achieved a breakthrough performance in the 14th Korean Bar Examination, surpassing global AI models in accuracy.

The company revealed on Wednesday that Super Lawyer recorded a 74% accuracy rate on the multiple-choice section, well above the passing threshold.

Super Lawyer correctly answered 111 out of 150 questions, exceeding the five-year average passing score of 103. According to legal test preparation institutions, this result places the AI within the top 30% of this year’s examinees.

Notably, Super Lawyer is the first AI in a non-English-speaking jurisdiction to independently complete an entire bar exam’s multiple-choice section and reach a passing score.

This achievement marks a significant milestone in the advancement of AI for legal applications, with Super Lawyer outperforming its previous record of 53.3% set in 2024. The model also demonstrated a decisive edge over major international AI models.

When tested on the same exam questions, OpenAI’s GPT-4.5 scored 49.3%, while Anthropic’s Claude 3.7 Sonnet trailed at 45.3%, both falling short of the passing mark.

Super Lawyer’s superior performance highlights its deep understanding of complex legal concepts and real-world problem-solving capabilities. Since its launch in July 2024, the AI-powered assistant has been designed specifically for legal professionals, leveraging an advanced large language model (LLM) developed in-house by Law & Company.

The firm attributes the model’s success to its high-quality legal data sources, cutting-edge AI agent technology, and an advanced retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) approach for precise data utilization.

The AI assistant is trained on a vast legal dataset, including 4.95 million case law records, legislation, administrative rulings, regulatory guidelines, and authoritative legal interpretations.

In a first for the legal tech industry, Super Lawyer now also integrates exclusive access to over 600 legal texts from Pakyoungsa, South Korea’s leading legal book publisher, further enhancing its accuracy and reliability.

From a technical standpoint, Super Lawyer employs an AI agent system that conducts multi-step exploratory searches rather than relying on one-time data retrieval. If initial queries fail to retrieve sufficient information, the system autonomously adjusts search parameters and iterates until it secures optimal data.

This method enables the AI to provide comprehensive and highly accurate responses, sometimes uncovering legal insights that users may not have initially considered.

An Gi-Soon, head of Law & Company’s AI Legal Research Institute and a veteran attorney, emphasized the firm’s commitment to refining Super Lawyer’s capabilities. “Our focus remains on enhancing answer precision and minimizing AI hallucinations, ensuring that Super Lawyer continues to improve legal work efficiency,” he said.

“We are also integrating advanced reasoning models into our AI agents to streamline complex legal workflows, making the service more intuitive and practical for professionals.”

CEO Kim Bon-Hwan echoed this sentiment, stating, “Super Lawyer was created to maximize the efficiency and expertise of legal professionals. We are proud to see its technological excellence validated, allowing lawyers to concentrate on more strategic and creative tasks.”

As Law & Company continues to refine Super Lawyer, the AI is poised to set new benchmarks for legal technology, potentially reshaping the way legal professionals interact with artificial intelligence in the years ahead.
