SEOUL, Jan. 27 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea’s LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics reaffirmed their dominance in the U.S. premium appliance market, securing all top spots in Consumer Reports’ 2025 rankings for large-capacity washers. Despite increasing competition from Chinese brands, Korean companies demonstrated superior technology and reliability, solidifying their positions in the world’s largest premium market.

Consumer Reports evaluated washers in three categories—front-load, top-load, and agitator—and awarded LG products eight out of nine top rankings, with Samsung claiming the remaining spot. LG swept the front-load category, with its LG Tromm washer earning the highest score of 87 out of 114 models evaluated. The report praised the Tromm washer for its exceptional cleaning performance and best-in-class energy and water efficiency.

LG also dominated the top-load category, securing all three top spots, with each model receiving the “Green Choice” certification for eco-friendliness. In the agitator category, LG took first and second place, while Samsung ranked third.

Meanwhile, Chinese brands such as Haier, Hisense, and Midea failed to make the rankings. Midea’s agitator washer received a score of just 58, falling short in brand reliability and customer satisfaction, highlighting the ongoing gap between Chinese and Korean manufacturers in the premium market.

Consumer Reports, known for its rigorous, unbiased testing, purchases appliances directly from the market and includes brand reliability and user satisfaction in its evaluations, enhancing the credibility of its rankings.

LG Electronics has been recognized as the most reliable appliance brand by Consumer Reports for six consecutive years since 2019. The company continues to expand its influence in the U.S., leveraging its premium products such as the WashTower and WashCombo. It was recently named “Best Partner” by Lowe’s, the largest appliance retailer in the U.S.

According to research firm Traqline, Samsung and LG captured 21% and 19% market shares, respectively, in the U.S. home appliance market in 2024.

“Reliability is a crucial factor for U.S. consumers, given the challenges of servicing appliances in such a large country,” said an industry expert. “Korean companies have built a reputation for trust and innovation in the premium market, which remains difficult for competitors to match.”
