SEOUL, July 1 (Korea Bizwire)LG Chem Ltd., South Korea’s leading chemical maker, said Thursday it will take the initiative to build a virtuous resource cycle ecosystem using plastic waste with its business partners.

The company signed a memorandum of understanding with Sampyo Cement, Hyundai Rotem, the Korea Engineers Alliance and the Korea Cement Association to establish a virtuous resource cycle ecosystem.

Under terms of the MOU, LG Chem will develop technology to prevent chlorine from being attached to the inside of kilns through the convergence of chemical and physical technologies, as well as technology to improve the safety of chlorine dust resourcification facilities.

Moreover, LG Chem will promote the localization of raw material production by developing high value-added products such as potassium hydroxide and potassium carbonate, the cleaning material for semiconductors, by enhancing the purity of potassium chloride generated through the chlorine dust resourcification process.

Hyundai Rotem, a railway system and plant equipment maker, will be responsible for turning chlorine dust into the fertilizer raw material potassium chloride by applying resourcification technology from environment facility specialist Anytech.

It will also supply a chlorine dust processing facility and potassium chloride production line for Sampyo Cement’s plant in Samcheok, Gangwon Province.

Sampyo Cement a manufacturer of construction materials, will actively use plastic waste as an alternative fuel while carrying out zero waste reclamation through operational optimization.
