SEOUL, July 28 (Korea Bizwire)LG Display Co., a major display panel maker in South Korea, announced on Monday that it will hold the First Open Innovation Forum as part of efforts to bring innovative values to consumers through collaboration with other industries.

Open innovation refers to the pursuit of innovation through active cooperation with external parties.

LG Display said it will explore new business opportunities on the back of the expandability of OLED displays, while promoting cooperation with other companies, including those engaged in the construction, furniture and interior industries, in order to expand its ecosystem.

The main theme of the First Open Innovation Forum is ‘Home Life’, reflecting the changes in everyday life caused by the outbreak of the coronavirus.

In collaboration with construction, furniture and interior companies, LG Display will host in-depth discussions on how to develop innovative OLED products such as furniture-type home electronics, built-in home electronics for interior use, and smart video home electronics, which could bring more convenience to home life.

To clear the way for the participating companies to have a clear understanding of the expandability of OLED displays, as well as to come up with better ideas, LG Display will set up an OLED exhibition center inside the LG Science Park in Seoul where the companies will be able to get hands-on experience with expandable OLED displays.

The Open Innovation Forum will be held in concurrence with an idea competition for start-ups. The idea contest will encourage companies to develop new gaming, health, cooking and fashion content using OLED displays.

LG Display will select a total of ten exemplary companies through an online Hackathon scheduled to run from Aug. 4 to 6.
