SEOUL, Jan. 9 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korean flat-panel display maker LG Display Co. said Tuesday that it has showcased the world’s first 65-inch ultra high-definition rollable organic light-emitting diode panel at the world’s largest consumer electronics tradeshow in the U.S.

Rollable display means that consumers can easily roll up a display and enjoy bright, high-resolution content anytime, anywhere, LG Display said.

The OLED display “can be rolled up and hidden when not in use, and the small size of the rolled-up screen means that it can be more easily moved and stored, allowing for better space utilization, something existing displays can’t deliver on at present,” LG Display said.

LG Display showcased its technological prowess at a convention center in Las Vegas on Monday, a day ahead of the opening of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

The South Korean tech giant said it aims to sell 2.8 million large-size OLED displays this year and plans to increase its sales target of large-size OLED displays to 6.5 million units in 2020.

LG Display said it plans to expand production of OLED displays through its investment in China.

In December, a South Korean government panel approved LG Display’s 5 trillion-won (US$4.4 billion) project to build its first large organic light-emitting diode plant in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou.

The Chinese plant is set to begin mass production in the second half of 2019 and has a monthly production capacity of 60,000 8.5th generation large-size OLED displays.
