SEOUL, Feb. 12 (Korea Bizwire) — LG Electronics is continuing its tradition of celebrating employees’ children entering school by providing laptops and school supplies, reinforcing its commitment to work-life balance and family support.

Since launching the initiative in 2021, LG Electronics has gifted approximately 22,000 laptops over the past five years. Employees can request a laptop once per child when they begin elementary, middle, or high school. This year, around 3,000 employees with children born in 2018 (entering elementary school), 2012 (middle school), and 2009 (high school) will receive gifts.

For the first time, employees can choose between the LG Gram laptop and the newly introduced LG StanbyME 2, a wireless, portable lifestyle screen. Those opting for StanbyME 2 will also receive a dedicated speaker and wireless earphones.

The device, a successor to LG’s original StanbyME, offers versatile usage with accessories that allow it to function as a tablet on desks or a framed display mounted on walls.

An LG employee whose two children are entering elementary and middle school this year expressed gratitude, saying, “Both of my children now need their own laptops for classes and assignments, and thanks to the company, they each received one, easing our financial burden.”

In addition to laptops and screens, LG Electronics is providing school supply sets and sportswear to 1,500 employees with children starting elementary school. Notably, CEO Cho Joo-wan is personally contributing to the initiative by sending a congratulatory letter under the name “Uncle CEO”, encouraging children to enjoy school life, listen to teachers, and build friendships.

The elementary school gift program is part of LG’s “life-stage tailored gifts” initiative, which also includes support for college entrance exam students. Since 2014, more than 24,000 employee children have benefited from these programs.

Beyond school entry gifts, LG Electronics actively supports employees in balancing work and family life. Since 2022, the company has extended parental leave to two years, surpassing legal requirements, and offers flexible work hours, allowing employees to reduce their workday by one to five hours during child-rearing periods.

With these initiatives, LG Electronics continues to set an example in fostering a family-friendly corporate culture in South Korea.
