SEOUL, Dec. 22 (Korea Bizwire) – LG Electronics has unveiled LG Radio+, an audio content service enabling users to enjoy radio and podcasts through its proprietary webOS smart TV platform, the company announced on December 22.
The service, offered in partnership with global audio content provider Radioline, allows users to access content for free by watching ads. Initially available in South Korea and the United States, the platform provides over 440 channels, including popular programs like Shuka World and Cultwo Show in Korea, and 14,500 channels in the U.S., featuring The Joe Rogan Experience and CNN Radio.
Users with webOS 6.0 or later can download the app, which intuitively starts playing popular channels upon launch and features a user-friendly interface with essential controls.
LG plans to expand LG Radio+ to its smart home platform LG ThinQ, allowing compatibility with LG XBOOM audio products. This initiative builds on LG’s LG Channels, a free ad-supported TV streaming service, as part of its strategy to bolster content and advertising capabilities in the competitive smart TV platform market.
According to market research firm Omdia, the smart TV platform advertising market is expected to grow from $6.6 billion in 2024 to $13.4 billion in 2029. LG’s webOS platform, which celebrates its 10th anniversary, has seen revenues surpass ₩1 trillion ($830 million), marking a fourfold increase since 2021.
With over 220 million smart TVs equipped with webOS and partnerships with 400 brands, LG aims to solidify its standing in the global smart TV ecosystem. “We will continue to enhance the competitive edge of webOS by expanding diverse content tailored to customer preferences and lifestyles,” said Jung Sung-hyun, Head of LG’s webOS Content Services Division.
