SEOUL, June 4 (Korea Bizwire) — In recognition of World Environment Day, LG Electronics is launching a series of global and local initiatives to spotlight the urgent need to combat plastic pollution and promote sustainable living, the company announced Wednesday.
As part of its long-running “LG Hope Screen” program, LG is screening a campaign video produced by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on its prominent digital billboards in New York’s Times Square and London’s Piccadilly Circus through June 13. The video, aligned with the 2025 World Environment Day theme of “Ending Plastic Pollution,” features real-life efforts to reduce single-use plastics and transform plastic waste into eco-friendly materials like recycled textiles. It also calls for collective action to restore marine and soil ecosystems.
Launched in 2011, the LG Hope Screen initiative provides free airtime on LG’s outdoor displays to public service campaigns by international organizations and NGOs. This year marks its 15th anniversary.
In tandem with the campaign, LG has designated World Environment Day as “LG Electronics Volunteer Day,” mobilizing employees across 28 global sites for environmental service projects. Tree planting is underway at LG operations in Indonesia and Kazakhstan, while staff in Singapore and Taiwan are leading clean-up efforts in local parks and beaches.
In South Korea, LG is partnering with E-Circulation Governance — the nation’s electronics recycling cooperative — to host the “E-Circulation Festival.” The promotion encourages customers to subscribe to LG appliances certified for superior recyclability. Shoppers purchasing qualifying products at LG Best Shops by the end of June will receive up to 50,000 won in Naver or KakaoPay points.
“We remain committed to building a sustainable future with our customers,” said Yoon Dae-sik, Executive Vice President for External Relations at LG Electronics.
The company’s 2025 initiatives reflect its broader strategy to integrate environmental responsibility into brand communications, product promotion, and community outreach worldwide.
