SEOUL, Sept. 4 (Korea Bizwire) – “Guest Mode,” the proprietary security solution developed by LG Electronics, has been registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The company has applied for patents with patent offices in the United States, Europe, and Korea since 2012.

The Guest Mode technology allows a single smartphone to be used like two separate phones by using two different lock patterns. On guest mode, access to all personal information such as photos, text messages, and messengers will be blocked, with only a limited number of apps activated. Even when a text message has arrived, the phone doesn’t show it to the user in guest mode. When the user takes advantage of Guest Mode for her child, she can do so by allowing only necessary apps such as photo or video apps to work under the mode.

The company won in June this year a patent for its “Knock Code” technology from the Korea Intellectual Property Office. LG has applied for patents for Knock Code-related technologies since 2008.

Hong Sa-yoon, head of the LSR/UX research center within the company’s Design Management Institute, said, “We will keep coming up with intuitive and convenient features for our customers like Guest Mode.”
