SEOUL, April 24 (Korea Bizwire) – LG Electronics announced on April 24 that it has forged a partnership with the National Rehabilitation Center to improve the accessibility of its home appliances, ensuring that people of all ages and abilities can use the products with ease.

Through a memorandum of understanding signed on the same day, LG Electronics and the center’s Assistive Technology Research Team will collaborate on developing the next generation of LG’s “Comfort Kit” – a series of attachable devices designed to enhance the accessibility of existing appliances.

The partnership will also involve joint research initiatives under the National Rehabilitation Center’s assistive technology programs.

LG’s Comfort Kit enables users to retrofit their appliances with specialized components that improve accessibility based on individual needs.

Last March, after analyzing pain points identified by a disability advisory panel, LG released seven initial Comfort Kit products. These included the “Easy Handle,” which allows users with limited strength or dexterity to open and close appliance doors, such as those on washing machines, with greater ease.

Since last year, LG has also been publishing “Easy Read” guides that explain how to operate TVs, refrigerators, and other appliances in simple terms for individuals with learning disabilities or young children. Additionally, the company distributes Braille stickers for low-vision customers to affix onto their appliances.

“Through our collaboration with the National Rehabilitation Center, we aim to further upgrade the Comfort Kit and ensure that all customers can use our home appliances more conveniently,” said Lee Hyang-eun, head of CX for LG’s home appliances division.
