SEOUL, Aug. 12 (Korea Bizwire)LG Electronics is targeting the sports lighting market with its ground-breaking lighting solutions.

LG Electronics has recently completed the installation of its Plasma Lighting System in the LG Champions Park, a ballpark, in Icheon. The lighting will be firstly operated at the LG Cup International Women’s Baseball Tournament 2014 to be held in the park. This will be the first case to install PLS in a ballpark.

PLS is a new way of lighting that utilizes the principle of light emission through microwaves which results in continuous emissions of bright light. As it is similar to sunlight and does not blink like any other conventional fluorescent light, it is comfortable for viewers to watch a night game like they watch a daytime game.

Athletes are also satisfied with the lighting when they play the baseball. “I definitely have less tired eyes under the new lighting, compared to the conventional one which made me experience afterimages during the catch ball practice,” Hyun Jae-yun, a player in LG Twins, said.

Moreover, PLS is highly energy efficient. It lasts at least twice longer compared to metalhalide lamps, saving more than 15 percent of electricity costs. Unlike the traditional lighting, in addition, it is environmentally friendly, completely free from hazardous materials.

“PLS is the next-generation lighting device best optimized for sports lighting,” Lee Dae-geun, manager of the sales department in the company said. “The revolutionary lighting will cultivate and lead the sports lighting market,” he added.
