SEOUL, Oct. 31 (Korea Bizwire) – LG Electronics is entering the modular housing market with its new LG Smart Cottage, a compact dwelling that integrates artificial intelligence-enabled appliances with advanced heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) technology.
The South Korean technology giant announced on October 30 that it has launched a dedicated website for the Smart Cottage, targeting both individual consumers seeking second homes in suburban and rural areas and corporate clients.
The Smart Cottage combines living spaces with smart appliances and connected services. Each unit comes equipped with LG’s premium space-optimized appliances, including the Objet Collection WashTower Compact, dishwasher, induction cooktop, light-wave oven, and water purifier. The homes feature Internet of Things (IoT) devices such as smart door locks, CCTV systems, and motorized blinds, all of which can be controlled through LG’s ThinQ mobile application.
The homes will be compatible with LG’s upcoming AI home hub, ThinQ ON, allowing for easy upgrading to a fully AI-enabled residence. Energy efficiency is a key feature, achieved through LG’s heat pump HVAC system and energy-efficient appliances. An optional roof-mounted solar panel system enables residents to generate a significant portion of their energy needs.
Two models are available: the single-story Mono and the two-story Duo. The Mono features an open-plan design with a living room, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom in one continuous space. The Duo separates living areas across two floors, with communal spaces on the ground floor and bedroom accommodations above.
Prospective buyers can virtually customize their Smart Cottage through the official website, selecting everything from the installation location to exterior and interior finishes, with pricing for the Mono model starting at 180 million won.
The homes utilize a prefabricated construction method, with over 70% of components—including the modular structure, windows, wiring, bathroom, and kitchen fixtures—manufactured in advance. This approach can reduce construction time by up to 50% compared to traditional reinforced concrete methods.
LG Electronics has partnered with modular housing specialist Space Wavy and plans to expand collaborations within the modular housing industry.
“We aim to transform the perception of second homes from temporary accommodations to fully-realized personal spaces,” said Lee Hyang-eun, executive vice president of CX at LG Electronics’ H&A Business Division. “The Smart Cottage embodies LG Electronics’ ESG vision of ‘Better Life for All,’ offering a sustainable living solution that benefits both people and the planet.”
