SEOUL, Apr. 15 (Korea Bizwire) — LG Energy Solution, a major battery manufacturer, announced on April 14 that it is adopting generative artificial intelligence technology across its operations to better analyze customer needs and maximize operational efficiency.

One of the first AI-powered tools implemented is the “YouTube Trend Report,” which utilizes AI to analyze battery-related videos on YouTube and summarize the latest trends in email reports sent to employees.

For key phrases like “electric vehicles” and “EV policies,” the AI condenses the main points from recent YouTube videos, includes links to the footage, and allows employees to click through for additional details and comments. Hundreds of employees across a variety of departments are already receiving these trend updates.

The company said the reports have proven effective in areas like supply chain management for key raw materials like metals, even in the early adoption phase.

LG Energy Solution has also started piloting a conversational AI chatbot focused on human resources policies for new employees hired this year. After training the AI on the company’s HR system, it can respond in real-time to questions like “What are the recommended holidays this year?” and “Where do I request time off?”

By the end of 2023, the firm plans to complete an “AI Integrated Platform” to incorporate AI capabilities across its entire operations, including customer and partner contract management, enterprise resource planning, software development, raw material procurement, and battery production processes. The goal is to leverage AI to boost efficiency and productivity company-wide.

“Through our AI capabilities, we will accelerate our digital transformation to automatically collect and analyze customer and market trend data in the rapidly evolving battery market,” said Lee Jin-gyu, Chief Digital Officer at LG Energy Solution. “This will enable data-driven decision making and strategic reporting to deliver differentiated value to our customers.”
