SEOUL, July 16 (Korea Bizwire) — LG Innotek has unveiled its latest automotive innovation—a next-generation digital key solution that enhances vehicle security, driver convenience, and child safety through precision wireless communication and AI-powered features.
At a technology showcase held on July 15 at its Seoul headquarters, LG Innotek demonstrated a range of functionalities enabled by its digital key system, which allows drivers to unlock, start, and monitor vehicles using a smartphone within a 5-meter radius. One standout feature included an alert system that detects a child left in the backseat and sends a notification within 10 seconds of locking the car.
The digital key market, currently valued at 600 billion won ($440 million), is expected to expand to 3.3 trillion won by 2030, driven by growing demand for connected car technologies.
LG Innotek entered the digital key space in 2017 and introduced its first module in 2019. Its latest offering combines Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology to address vulnerabilities in earlier BLE-only systems and improve security.
The company’s proprietary 3D positioning algorithm further boosts accuracy, pinpointing smartphone location within a 10-centimeter margin, significantly reducing errors such as accidental unlocking.
AI integration has accelerated development timelines and cut resource requirements by more than 50%, while increasing location accuracy by over 30%, according to Nam Hyung-ki, head of LG Innotek’s Connectivity Development Division.

Looking ahead, LG Innotek plans to launch a third-generation solution incorporating in-house radar technology. The upcoming version includes “Child Presence Detection” (CPD), capable of sensing subtle movements like a child’s breathing in a locked car and issuing alerts promptly.
Additional safety features include intrusion detection, rear collision alerts, and seatbelt reminders. LG Innotek has already secured contracts for its digital key solution with 14 vehicle models worldwide and expects significant adoption of its 3rd-gen system later this year or in 2026.
“We aim to grow our vehicle communication components business to 1.5 trillion won in annual revenue by 2030,” said Yoo Byung-kook, head of LG Innotek’s Vehicle Components Division. “Our digital key technology delivers distinctive value rooted in LG Innotek’s unmatched wireless communication capabilities.”
