SEOUL, March 22 (Korea Bizwire)LG Electronics Inc. has kept its vow to provide warranty services for smartphones, even after its complete withdrawal from the loss-making mobile phone business in July of last year.

The tech giant is currently distributing the latest Android upgrade for its mid-range smartphone LG Velvet, industry sources said.

The upgrade offers new privacy features like a single-touch option to turn cameras and microphones on and off.

Android 12 is the newest version released in October of last year. It is LG’s first move to introduce an operating system (OS) upgrade for smartphones following the company’s retreat from the smartphone business.

Android 11, which was offered on the rotating-screen smartphone LG Wing and other models last year, was released in September 2020 which was before LG shut down its smartphone business.

The newest upgrade has kept the company’s vow to provide OS updates even after the shutdown of LG’s smartphone department.

The company has promised to provide three updates for its premium smartphones released after 2019, and two updates for non-premium smartphones. It also plans to distribute security updates for the Q31, Q51, Q61 and Q92 within the first quarter of this year.
