SEOUL, Sept. 5 (Korea Bizwire) – LG Electronics announced on September 4 that it will showcase its new transparent OLED TVs at Frieze Seoul 2024, reinterpreting the works of a master of abstract ink painting.

The four-day art fair, considered one of the two major contemporary art fairs alongside Art Basel, is being held at COEX in Seoul’s Gangnam district.

This marks the second year LG has participated as the official headline partner for Frieze Seoul. It’s also the first domestic unveiling of LG’s transparent OLED TV technology.

For this exhibition, artist Suh Do Ho and his brother, architect Suh Eulho, have collaborated to reinterpret their late father’s artwork. Their father, Suh Se-ok, was renowned as a pioneer of abstract ink painting.

The Suh brothers have utilized LG’s transparent OLED TVs as a medium for this artistic reinterpretation.

Suh Eulho, responsible for the spatial design of the exhibition, has created a layered arrangement of artworks that allows visitors to see through the entire exhibition space from the entrance to the back, effectively turning the whole area into a single, cohesive artwork.

Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a semi-transparent installation. Behind this, they can simultaneously view two rows of screens: eight transparent OLED TVs and eight OLED evo TVs, all displaying media art pieces.

Suh Do Ho has transformed his father’s original flat paintings into short animated media artworks, bringing a new sense of vitality to the pieces.

Additionally, a large media wall composed of 24 OLED signage displays will show a documentary featuring Suh Se-ok’s working process. On the side walls, seven original works, including “Joyful Rain” (1976) and “Pedestrian” (1978), will be exhibited.

“We’re delighted to showcase at Frieze Seoul how artistic inspiration within a family can resonate across generations and create emotional impact when combined with technology,” said Oh Hye-won, head of the Brand Communication Division at LG Electronics.

“Through the LG OLED Art Project, we aim to demonstrate the distinctive value of LG OLED TVs.”
