SEOUL, May 2 (Korea Bizwire) — The new LG G5 has received considerable attention, as has a recent commercial touting the flagship phone.
The commercial, released in April, stars well-known English actor Jason Statham – as a matter of fact, many Jason Stathams. If you look closely enough, all 198 characters that appear in the commercial look just like the actor, or somewhat like him.
It’s a Jason Statham masquerade.
So how did the commercial’s creators pull off such a feat?
LG Electronics revealed some of the details behind the filming of the ad in a clip released on YouTube yesterday titled ‘LG G5: TV Commercial – Behind the Scenes with Jason Statham’. The two-minute video shows the making of facial masks, and introduces several techniques used in the ad’s production.
In order to distinguish the characters from one another, the team used various styles of make-up and hand-made dozens of distinct facial masks.
A total of 120 cameras were used to film Statham’s face to form a full 360-degree image.
The commercial received positive reviews from both critics and the public. It was selected as one of the ‘Most Engaging Ads’ for the third week of April by Ad Age, a US marketing and media magazine.
“We tried to create a commercial that not only presents product features but that’s also fun,” said a marketing official from LG Electronics.
