SEOUL, April 6 (Korea Bizwire) – LG Electronics Inc. said Wednesday it will sell the industry’s first smartwatch that runs on the long-term evolution (LTE) network, nearly six months after it was showcased.
The LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition, to be released in South Korea this week, is significant as it does not need to link to smartphones to make phone calls, send massages and use other features that call for network connection.
The device, priced at 451,000 (US$389), will come with a 1.38-inch plastic organic light-emitting diode (P-OLED) display, and a 570 mAh battery.
LG said the product comes with three tangible buttons that allow users to activate various features from contact numbers to health care apps.
The smartwatch, which runs on the Android Wear platform, is also capable of connecting to Apple Inc.’s iOS as well, LG added.
The device also boasts dust-and-water resistance features, being capable of staying underwater up to a meter deep for 30 minutes.’
